The Eye of Minds by James Dashner

The Eye of Minds by James Dashner

Delacorte Books for Young Readers | October 8, 2013

An all-new, edge-of-your seat adventure from James Dashner, the author of the New York Times bestselling Maze Runner series, The Eye of Mindsis the first book in The Mortality Doctrine, a series set in a world of hyperadvanced technology, cyberterrorists, and gaming beyond your wildest dreams . . . and your worst nightmares.

Michael is a gamer. And like most gamers, he almost spends more time on the VirtNet than in the actual world. The VirtNet offers total mind and body immersion, and it’s addictive. Thanks to technology, anyone with enough money can experience fantasy worlds, risk their life without the chance of death, or just hang around with Virt-friends. And the more hacking skills you have, the more fun. Why bother following the rules when most of them are dumb, anyway?

But some rules were made for a reason. Some technology is too dangerous to fool with. And recent reports claim that one gamer is going beyond what any gamer has done before: he’s holding players hostage inside the VirtNet. The effects are horrific—the hostages have all been declared brain-dead. Yet the gamer’s motives are a mystery.

The government knows that to catch a hacker, you need a hacker.
And they’ve been watching Michael. They want him on their team.
But the risk is enormous. If he accepts their challenge, Michael will need to go off the VirtNet grid. There are back alleys and corners in the system human eyes have never seen and predators he can’t even fathom—and there’s the possibility that the line between game and reality will be blurred forever.

I loved loved loved The Maze Runner trilogy (with the exception of The Death Cure), so I’m definitely looking forward to more of James Dashner’s work! He knows how to write a good dystopia/survival story, so I’m glad he’s writing more. Only a couple more months until this release, October 8, 2013 from Delacorte Books for Young Readers.

  1. I haven't read anything by James Dashner Jen! I think I need to fix that and this book seems like a great opportunity to do so. Even though I haven't read many books about gamers, the ones I have read I've loved so I'm excited to try this one! Fabulous choice this week!

  2. Ahh, I still need to read that Maze Runner series- the thoughts on it have been rather mixed which is why I have been so reluctant to pick it up. This one looks great though!

    Thanks for sharing, love! <33

  3. Hey, I haven't heard of this one! That is quite a detailed summary and I'm hesitant to read it because I like to go into books with the least amount of information possible. So my interest in this one is based primarily on the good things I've heard about The Maze Runner series (which I STILL haven't read yet!). Adding this one to GR now!

  4. I had such mixed thoughts about Dashner's Maze Runner books, but I suppose I did enjoy them overall. I hope this one is good! The premise is quite interesting, though I do have to agree with Aylee in that the summary is just a little too detailed. Still, I'm looking forward to trying the book. Great pick, Jen! 🙂
